Title Town

One thing I will never do is apologize for being a proud father. For the second straight summer “the boy” has been on a championship little league team. Last year the city league Marlins won the title with a bottom of the 6th rally that will forever go down in our memory. They went from needing 2 runs to not be “mercy ruled” to just needing 3 outs in the top of the 7th to secure the title! It was a great game and memory. When the winter rolled around we were approached about playing in an independent travel league … Continue reading Title Town

My Blue Heaven!

In a few short weeks we’re packing up the “family truckster“, setting the GPS for Outer Banks and spending a week on the beaches of North Carolina. As if that wasn’t inviting enough, I took it upon myself to just take a quick “look see” how far out of the way Chapel Hill would be on our journey. Since we’re “in the neighborhood” we’re going to go ahead and spend the night 2 miles from the University of North Carolina. To say I’m excited might be the understatement of the year! While we’re there “The Boy” and I are already … Continue reading My Blue Heaven!

One Shining Moment

About a month ago when our beloved Tar Heels were on top of the NCAA polls, I placed a call to a great friend that has connections in the Dayton area. The request was not a little one. “I need to get my hands on 2 tickets to the NCAA tourney in Dayton in case North Carolina plays there“. I had to leave a voice mail, and never heard back so I was not sure if the request was ever followed up upon. As Florida State luck would have it, UNC’s loss in the ACC tournament last weekend meant that … Continue reading One Shining Moment

Awana Grand Prix

It’s that time of year again. This is the first year that we have two entries into the Awana Grand Prix on Friday night. This is the first for our daughter and the third car for our son. Each year, the brainstorming session into what we should create out of a block of wood is half the fun. As you can see by the pictures, my daughters was easy. A little pink paint and some Hello Kitty stickers and she was all set. “The Boy” on the other hand presented some challenges… The vision was to create a convertible UNC … Continue reading Awana Grand Prix

Pride

The photo above is of my first born and only son. He is the “spittin’ image” of me and this apple fell way too close to the tree. His passions (so far) in life have followed mine. He loves basketball and the Carolina Tar Heels. We rejoice and mourn with every win and loss. I am so proud of him for how hard he has worked to become quite good at the game he loves. He really is a student of the game. Even at the indoor water park, he can be found shooting a basketball in the pool for … Continue reading Pride

Parental Wisdom

I just told my 7 year old the following: “If you want to do what you want to do today, then I suggest that you do what you know you should”. -me What? No sooner did it come out of my mouth then¬† I realized that I’m not sure I even understood what I meant. Did I mention the little person I said it to was 7 years old?? I think I know what I meant and he didn’t really react so maybe he did too. Or not… Continue reading Parental Wisdom

Marlins in Real Time

Our Fightin’ Marlins won again tonight to win the National Little League Title. They jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one and never looked back. They closed it out by winning 13-0. It has been a summer to remember and so much fun for all of us (players, parents and coaches). The kids play tomorrow night at 5:45 for the World Series Title. You have got to love the internet and mobile technologies. Tomorrow night I’ll post some real time game shots and scoring updates for out of town family and friends that cannot make it to the game. … Continue reading Marlins in Real Time

Loose Lips

With only 4 days left in the school year, I scheduled to have lunch with “the boy” at school today. He enjoys having me come in (I think it’s the fast food I bring) and I enjoy stepping into his world for 30 minutes. I get the opportunity to observe his circles of influence and see what the other kids at his school are like. I took the opportunity today to ask about several people in the cafeteria. One of the men I inquired about was the guy in charge of keeping the cafeteria and lunch hour running like a … Continue reading Loose Lips

Priceless too….

The funniest line of the night (from my previous post) came from my 7 year old. Apparently my “stories of the road” and some of the individuals I encounter on flights have been committed to his memory. Our bus trip had a few interesting characters as well. As we were driving along and said characters were “acting up”, he simply said “Dad….is this what it’s like on an airplane?”. Once I figured out what he was referring to, I said “exactly son….exactly”. I forgot I recorded some footage of the trip on my cell phone. Here it is… ¬† Continue reading Priceless too….

I Knew This Day Would Come

Somewhere in this bald head of mine, I guess I always knew this day would come. The day when I would officially start getting beat at Playstation 2 by “The Boy” on a regular basis. Don’t tell anyone, but tonight, he extended the winning streak to 4 games in a row. The games have been different (NCAA 08, NCAA 2k8, Backyard Basketball and NBA Live 06), but the results are starting to speak for themselves. Gone are the days of choosing Columbus State Community College while he chose North Carolina to keep things fair. He’s crushing me no matter who … Continue reading I Knew This Day Would Come
