Blog Year In Review – March

When I committed to doing my “Blog Year In Review” I knew this post/day was coming. I wondered how I should handle it. I thought about just skipping right to April (which is full of great memories by the way), or just reposting something not related to that dark day or time in March. Yet how could I possibly avoid a post which should be a celebration? Selfishly, I wish that call never came. I wish Friday, March 5th never happened. My Mom went home to be with the Lord. Through the tears, through the pain, through the memories, there … Continue reading Blog Year In Review – March

A Message From Heaven

This is the first birthday I will celebrate since my Mom passed in March. From what my Sister and Dad have told me, she very much wanted to make the trip from Houston to Columbus to celebrate my 40th birthday. Just knowing that it was that important to her is so special to me. While I miss her, I am so thankful for the time we shared over these 40 years. Last night, my Wife presented me with this letter. While the keystrokes came from her hand, I believe it was a message sent from Heaven. I cannot express how … Continue reading A Message From Heaven

A Boy and his Mom

Every baseball game that “the boy” has, I spend a majority of the time offering tips and tricks and nursing him through inning by inning. Before most at bats either I will visit the dugout or he will visit the place I am sitting. When he is pitching, I offer encouragement, sometimes one pitch after another. So a few weeks ago when someone gave them mini-candy bars after the game, he took two, walked over to us…and promptly gave one to his Mom. There are days when a boy just needs him Mom. Period. I woke up this morning to … Continue reading A Boy and his Mom

I’m Coming Home

While it is a little known fact that I was born in Anchorage Alaska, if you ask me where I call “home”, without hesitation I will tell you Cleveland, Ohio. I actually grew up in a little town called Bedford on the east side of the city, but Cleveland is my city. The city is the punchline in many jokes and is often referred to as “the mistake on the lake”. I like to say that it might be a mistake, but it’s our mistake! I love Cleveland. Some of my greatest memories begin and end in Cleveland. That is … Continue reading I’m Coming Home

My Front Porch Lookin’ In

I have said it repeatedly, but I continue to be overwhelmed by the flood of support we have received in my Mom’s passing. Between facebook, twitter, text, emails, phone calls and voice mails, the response has just been amazing. It is a testimony to my Mom. One thing that has been an anchor for us are the stories of her legacy. Things like: “I can honestly say that my husband and I wouldn’t be together today without the loving example and time that your mom took with us.” “Your mom took me under her wing when I moved to Cleveland … Continue reading My Front Porch Lookin’ In

To My Mom – I.O.U

At 1:05pm today, my Mom slipped quietly from life and into the presence of her Savior, Redeemer and King. How do you put this into words? How do accurately honor the woman that literally brought you into this world? What words can be said about the nurturing love of a mother? It’s probably hard to believe but for once in my life I find it hard to come up with words to say or write. I have never been ashamed to say I am a “Mama’s Boy” and will wear that badge with honor now. My mom taught me so … Continue reading To My Mom – I.O.U

The Grace of My Life

One more post for my wife before Mothers day. I had never heard this song before until I was cutting the grass the other day. The lyrics say perfectly what I feel about my wife. Although all (former) boy band posts have been banned on AC180.com, I can safely post it here. Brian Littrell’s CD “Welcome Home” hasn’t gotten the credit it deserves. It’s not about the artist, it’s about the content. You are the grace of my life So tender, so undeserved Hard to believe you’re my wife Even harder to put what I feel into words. If I … Continue reading The Grace of My Life

I.O.U – A Mother’s Day Gift

I am a few days early with this, but it is by design. First is to remind the fella’s that Sunday is Mother’s day. Another is so that this song and it’s words have time to circulate the readers of this blog. While this is an oldie, it is probably one of the greatest expressions of heartfelt thank you’s to our mom’s. When I was growing up, we had this song on a 45 (remember those?) and I used to listen to it on our record player (aging myself here). Little did I know how true it would be later … Continue reading I.O.U – A Mother’s Day Gift
