Beautiful

Saturday marks the one year anniversary of the day that my Mom took her final breath on earth and entered into the very presence of her King and her Savior. She crossed the finish line. She heard “well done my good and faithful servant”. Any brokenness healed. Any pain now gone. Any spot removed. Any sorrow now joy. I sit here tonight and envision a moment so incredible I can only describe it with one word….

Where are YOU when it hurts?

A few years ago I read a great book by Phillip Yancey called “Where is God When it Hurts“. In the art of full disclosure, I began reading it on a plane sitting next to a Doctor that was dictating cases into his personal tape recorder….the entire flight. I couldn’t make this stuff up. To make matters worse, I was dealing with some physical pain at that time that was bothering me mentally as well. Add all of that together and you have a really long flight. The book is good though….seriously. The other night I sensed that audible voice … Continue reading Where are YOU when it hurts?

Together We’ll Dominate!

As I mentioned in my previous post, I was looking for a cause or something I could support in order to run the Columbus Half Marathon on October 17, 2010. It took less than 2 hours and I found something that I am honored to run for. Thanks to my friend Ryan Grammatico, my wife and I will be running our races in October to support former U of M kicker Phil Brabbs and his battle against a form of blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. While I don’t know Phil personally, like many of you, cancer has touched people close to … Continue reading Together We’ll Dominate!

Footsteps….

You know I’ve said since the day he was born that I hoped he wouldn’t follow in my footsteps. I had to laugh when I looked at these pictures that my wife took this morning walking them to their first day of school. A few observations: When did my first born get so tall? What’s with us having the exact same foot pattern in both pictures? You can tell he’s mine because we both have our “car doors open” (ears) Continue reading Footsteps….

What Hurts The Most

I hate that I’m writing this post. I can’t help it though. It’s been bothering me and I hope it bothers you too. I mean that in a good way… Last night I had someone send me a link to a blog post he had written. What I read was a very honest and real story about a guy that was once a youth pastor. After 2 bad church experiences, he’s out of the ministry and, by his own admission, off the wagon. He said: “I dig God and I’m pretty sure he digs me” I’ll be honest and say … Continue reading What Hurts The Most

I’m Gone To Carolina!

The bags are packed and the van is ready to go. The excitement that is building within me cannot be explained. If you know me you know that I love North Carolina. I love the State, the beaches, the sky, the white rocking chairs and of course the Basketball team! Tomorrow morning we push off to Raleigh and will spend the evening a stones throw away from Chapel Hill (Mecca). I am already plotting how I will make a late night run over to campus with “the boy” so we can touch the sacred soil. On Sunday we will complete the … Continue reading I’m Gone To Carolina!

Six Weeks to Nashville!

I cannot WAIT for this one. The excitement has been building now for several months. On April 24th, my wife and will travel to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the Music City Half Marathon. While visiting Nashville for the first time will be exciting by itself, there are so many great stories heading into this race. These are just a few: 1. It is going to be my absolute honor and privilege to finally meet up with a guy that has become a very close friend through the web. We connected originally through our friends at Thomas Nelson Publishing and have built … Continue reading Six Weeks to Nashville!

Dad-Blogs

Somewhere in the course of the past few weeks, I was made aware of a site called “Dad-Blogs.com”. What transpired very quickly over the course of a few days is my being added as a columnist to this great site. It is with great honor and humility that I accept this new opportunity. While it won’t have an impact on this site directly, I plan on using some of the posts that I make here to share on that site as well. As an example, my post regarding Tiger Woods has been featured on the site (which totally blows my … Continue reading Dad-Blogs

Book Review – "Crave"

While I was off enjoying my Blog Fast, I received an email that was a complete honor. Somehow in this internet world of 0’s and 1’s, an author named Chris Tomlinson found my blog. After looking it over, he asked me if I would like to take a preview look at his new book entitled “Crave“. I was so honored by his invitation that I gladly accepted and received two copies of the book within a few days. I thought it would be good for my wife and I to both read the book so I gave her one copy … Continue reading Book Review – "Crave"

Clothed Me With Joy

“You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent” -Psalm 30:11-12 Yesterday morning I witnessed what it means to be “clothed in joy”. Our church held what was called “Tailgate Sunday” and it was great fun. Everyone came to church wearing the jerseys of their favorite team (wonder what color I wore) and stayed around after the service for a potluck that would make any tailgate at OSU look small. Good eats. Great fellowship. The jerseys and colors are not what I am … Continue reading Clothed Me With Joy

Columbus Half Marathon Recap

Heather and I completed the Columbus Half Marathon this morning. My wife ran a great race and had a personal best time of 1:48! I was so proud of her as she beat her previous best by over 5 minutes! Sadly I missed being by her side because I left her and our friend Amanda at the beginning of the race in pursuit of my personal goal. I battled a sinus/respiratory flu all week but it was still hanging around this morning. I ended up finishing at 1:50. If I am honest, I was disappointed crossing the finish line. I … Continue reading Columbus Half Marathon Recap

Hoop Dream

WOW! That was great. I type this as I am driving back from Indianapolis, Indiana (don’t try this at home) where I just played 2 hours of pickup basketball at the NBA home of the Indiana Pacers, Conseco Fieldhouse. The entire thing was a blessing and a bit surreal. It is also another check mark off of my ever growing “Bucket List“. A total of 18 strangers were invited by the Pacers to spend the two hours living a dream (“d-plane, d-plane”). My squad was pretty strong considering we had never played together. We won our first three games, lost … Continue reading Hoop Dream
