Aaron… Found your site via Joni Ruhs’ blog. The title of it caught my eye because it’s also the title of a Creed song, “Arms Wide Open”. It was instantly the vehicle I wanted to use to tell someone I was expecting… whenever that happened. As it turned out, we found out together in a hospital, so I could not do it. Read some of your posts and I’ll be subscribing to you and put you on my blogroll. Look forward to reading more.

Hey, Aaron here’s a couple more for your quote list… especially since I see a lot of music related quotes:

“The climb to righteousness is steep, and though I may falter in my steps… I am never beyond God’s reach.” – Rich Mullins

“One man cannot do right in one department of life whilst he is occupied in doing wrong in any other department. Life is one indivisible whole.”

Todd – Another Gandhi quote I love is “My life is my message”. Glad you dropped in bro.

I read on a comment that your a Max Lucado fan. I only have read his book In The Grip of Grace. Was actually a really good book. I liked how he actually showed his personality throughout his writing..instead of just being a boring writer.

Anyways, I shall return to enjoy your writings.

    Aaron,

I stumbled across your blog earlier today while trying to find that song “Stealing Cinderella.” I’ve since read many of your postings and really enjoyed them. I am going to pass along your blog to my husband. . he is a Christian who has been struggling with his faith recently. I think reading another man’s thoughts on it will be very moving from him. Husbands and wives can provide wonderful counsel to one another, but sometimes a man needs another man to lean on. I don’t always understand the weight my husband feels on his shoulders, though I try the best I can. Thank you for your ministering. Ellen

    Eleen –

Thanks so much for the kind words. I was actually reading about “The Lord of the Gift” in the book “If You Want to Walk on Water” by John Ortberg about 10 minutes before I received your email. It was referring to our use of spiritual gifts and callings. Sometimes I wonder what my ministry is, or wonder if I am on the right track. Your comment gave me pause to consider some things as well. Thanks for coming by! I appreciate the thoughtful comment. God bless.

    G’day Aaron,

Well done for the strength and courage you have demonstrated in building relationships with the men in your sphere of influence, and modelling to them integrity and authenticity. I trust that you’re witnessing the life that comes from those men who have remained connected to you.

My name is Darren Lewis from Townsville, North Queensland, Australia. I have lead men’s small groups, men’s weekend retreats, and spoken at numerous men’s breakfasts, since 2000. I have had the privilege of connecting with John Eldredge and the Ransomed Heart Ministries team at their Outpost in Colorado Springs, and I have a personal friendship and mentoring relationship with Robert Lewis, founder of “Men’s Fraternity”, and author of “Raising a Modern Day Knight”, amongst others. Mid last year, Robert actually invited me to the U.S.A. to assist the leadership of Christ in the Tetons in one of their week-long father-son adventures, outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming… their website for your interest is http://www.christinthetetons.org. Since returning home, I have continued following our Father’s lead, and I am pleased to advise you that we have now launched a similar ministry here in Australia, called Fathering Adventures… http://www.fatheringadventures.com.au. Please take a little time to explore our website… I’d love to hear your feedback.

Our inaugural 5-night father-son adventure is being held from Saturday afternoon, September 27th, to Thursday morning, October 2nd, this year. The minimum age requirement for the “sons” is 14 years, and there is no upper age limit. We are limiting these 5-night adventures to a maximum of 12 father & son pairs. Once again, far more detail can be found at our website.

Please share this news with all of the fathers you know, to ensure that Fathering Adventures continues to flourish, and succeed in turning the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers… Boys and young men being ushered into authentic manhood. My desire is to see men from all around the world, bring their Dads, sons, significant male others (mentors / proteges) along.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to corresponding with you further, in our common quest to help men become all that they were created to be.

    Strength and Honour,

    Darren

What a beautiful family! Love the quotes. And me and my hubby are Tar Heel fans as well! What a year hey?!!! He went to school there when Jordan played. I went to Memphis – but I am a convert. : ) When Memphis was in the running, I felt a little bad of giving the Tar Heels my loyalty – but I got over it.

    Hi Aaron,

Happy New Year to you! I trust you are having an enjoyable day. My name is Todd Stepp and I work for BooksChristian.com, here in Franklin, TN. We are a Christian owned & operated company that sells over 200,000 Christian products.

I have visited your blog and have noticed that you post book reviews on your blog. I wanted to see if you would be interested in partnering with us, enabling visitors to your blog to purchase books that you already review, as well as other books that you may suggest to them (books of the day etc.). In return we would pay you 9% on every sale made. There is very little work that would need to be done on your end, as we provide all the tools to create links and codes that you can post on your blog. Again, this is simply a partnership in providing links for your blog visitors to purchase books from our website.

I would love to discuss this further with you at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you!

    Regards,

I am totally soaking in the writings, reviews and wisdom you share in your posts, thank you! I look forward with great anticipation of reading more insights that you share.. I read your book review , Our Last Great Hope, by Ronnie Floyd, because I have also read it. I was torn in some ways with his writing, although I have read other books by him, as well as visited his church when I was staying with friends there in Arkansas. But I was able to think with a little better attitude after reading your review – the perspetive always changes when we see through anothers eye view..
Thanks again – love the honesty in your writing style..

I was looking at this new WP theme, Superhero, when I found your blog advertised at the bottom as using the same theme.

Max Lucado and Philip Yancey are my fave authors too. Your closing line “In His Grip” is actually the title of one of my favorite book on grace by Max.

These last four lines of Chris Tomlin’s song resonates in me: “I want to give like I have plenty / I want to love like I’m not afraid / I want to be the man I was meant to be / I want to be the way I was made.”

Thank you for your interesting blog and the inspiration. God bless you more! 😉

Thank you for emphasizing the importance of having a compassionate heart. That lacking is why our country has fallen into such vitriolic division. How can Rob Bell AND Mark Driscoll be your favorite authors? The first is an intelligent, open, progressive Christian, the latter an antediluvian complementarian.
It is akin to me saying that my two favorite politicians are Jimmy Carter and Donald Trump.

    1. aaron Avatar

If you think that is crazy, you should see my playlists. I’m all over the place but honestly, Rob Bell really challenged my faith with his early writings (Velvet Elvis, Sex God). So did Donald Miller. Rob went a different path and I need to update my list but his early stuff was really good. Driscoll too. It happens across a lot of the mega churches. Even one I worked at for a very brief time in ministry. I hold their early work close though.
