Good To Go

gtg

I’ve been a bit reflective lately. With all of the reunions, funerals, changes and maybe even that pending birthday on Sunday, that will happen. I’ve also found that getting lost in thought is a way to make running a tad less miserable. This week I was running and heard one of my favorite Jason Aldean songs called “Good To Go.” I doubt there is a better way to explain how I feel about this life I’ve had. To quote the song…

And it made me think about where I’m at,
On my not so straight and narrow path…
All the generous and mostly undeserved,
Blessings that I’ve had.

I had an all-American Mom and Dad,
Some of the coolest friends you could ever have.
Found love I thought I’d never find…
Sometimes I can’t believe this life is mine.
And I’m not plannin’ on leavin’ yet,
But the truth is, you just never know,
An’ if this is as good as it gets,
Man, I think I’m good to go,
I’m good to go.

What else can you say? Honestly. I don’t want to sit here and say that life has been unicorns, rainbows and hearts dipped in honey. There’s been pain. There’s been struggle. There have been challenges and doubts. We’ve all got scars, but honestly, the good far outweighs the bad.

Got to hold my newborn baby girl,
And the hand of a man as he slipped from this world.
I’ve laughed so hard, I couldn’t stop,
Seen the sunrise from a mountain top.
And I’m not plannin’ on leavin’ yet,
But the truth is, you just never know,
An’ if this is as good as it gets,
Man, I think I’m good to go.

That lyric really struck me. I’ve been blessed to hold all 3 of my children after they entered this world. I’ve been there as others slipped away. Life is beautiful chaos. Life is good. Life is precious. Life is brief. It’s frustrating at times, but goodness life is good. Each day we’re given the opportunity to say “yes” and soak in whatever comes next. I’ve tried many things and failed. I’ve tried a few things that succeeded. The thing I’m most thankful for is that I’ve tried.

Yeah, I’ve been thinkin’ bout where I’m at,
On my not so straight and narrow path,
An’ I wouldn’t wanna change nothin’ about,
This “roll with the punches” life I’ve had.

I had an all-American Mom and Dad,
Some of the coolest friends you could ever have.
Found love I thought I’d never find…
I can’t believe this life is mine.
And I’m not plannin’ on leavin’ yet,
But the truth is, you just never know,
An’ if this is as good as it gets,
Man, I think I’m good to go,
I’m good to go.
I’m good to go.

While I have no intention of stepping from this life to the next anytime soon, I am good to go. As Rascal Flatts said “I’ve dealt with my ghosts and I’ve faced all my demons….for once I’m at peace with myself.” I tend to reflect more than I probably should. I tend to analyze and dissect the moments and memories. I wrestle with the could haves and should haves. But I am at peace with the past. It took a long time to get there. The road wasn’t always easy. But I am at peace with the past and blessed by this life I’ve had.

And I’m not plannin’ on leavin’ yet,
But the truth is, you just never know,
An’ if this is as good as it gets,
Man, I think I’m good to go,
I’m good to go.
I’m good to go.
