Fix You

I recently had a deep discussion with a band of brothers about several people we know that are hurting. Our discussion covered our desire to help those that were hurting move to a place of healing and ultimately to a place of helping (where they then help others who are hurting). As our discussion moved along, I couldn’t help but think of the words to the song by Coldplay called “Fix You”:

When you try your best, but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

This morning I am wrestling with the “how” you “help” people that are hurting. That may just be the million dollar question. So often I fear my answers sound more like a devotional or a quote I read somewhere. It seems shallow and like I don’t hurt with them. I can’t begin to understand what some of those I know are going through. I certainly don’t want to act like I do. I just want to know how to help.

I want to have the answers to questions I don’t understand

I want to speed up time to heal the wounds

I want to have knowledge of how this will all work out

I want to know how I can somehow help…

Fix you.
