What Are You Preparing For?

After recently completing the Columbus Half Marathon, the running calendar is now clear with no races on the horizon.

Translation = I am not motivated to go for a run anymore.

I have found that having another race on the calendar keeps me motivated to get out there 4 or 5 times a week. I have gotten out a few times, but it takes a lot more push knowing that there is really nothing out there to prepare for. Then it hit me today…

Am I living my faith that way too?

Not to be morbid here, but each and every one of us has a day on our life calendar that we are in one way or another preparing for. A few weeks ago that thought hit me when our Pastor said that “God has a date with your name on it circled on His calendar“. That might sound over-the-top, but it is, in fact, true. So how am I preparing for that day? I’m not talking about life insurance and for my family (although those are very important). I’m talking about the way I live my life.

Do I “train” for the day I meet Jesus with the passion and intensity that I train for a race? Am I as committed for that day as I am to not stopping to walk during a half marathon? When I searched my soul I wasn’t very pleased with my answer. THAT day is so important. Being in the Word, being the hands and feet, living a life of forgiveness, grace, compassion and striving to be like Jesus are so much more important. That day is bigger than any race.

How are you preparing for it?
