Blog Karma

How about a quick shout out to my new favorite NASCAR Driver Kasey Kahne winning the Coca Cola 600! Must be some blog karma workin’ after my post about him late last week. Could have something to do with the fact that the race was held in none other than Concord, North Carolina. Coincidence? I think not. As I said last week, my employer sponsors Kahne (more specifically Evernham Racing) so it was good to actually watch him finish on top. Elliot Sadler (our primary driver) finished somewhere in the top 5 as well.

I am also admitting that I actually flipped over from the LA/San Antonio playoff game to see the final laps. There was some drama to keep it interesting and Kasey pulled it off. Good deal. I’m a beer cup holder helmet away from being a full blown NASCAR guy.

Once You Go Mac…

I’m making it a public announcement…I have officially gone Mac. About a year ago, my man Stef gave me the ultimate hook-up of an old G4 tower (officially called Sawtooth in the Mac community). Thanks to the open architecture, cheap PC parts and ease of access, I was able to do some upgrades. Now she’s a 1.8 Ghz machine with 1 Gig of RAM running OSX Tiger. After all of the upgrades I probably would have been better buying a Mac Mini, but who knew at the time.

It took me awhile to officially make the switch, but I am happy to report that I type this post from said Mac. I have officially passed my Windows PC Tower onto “the boy” and am 100% Mac (I still use a Dell laptop for work). In the last 5 days or so I have created 2 DVD’s, home networked a printer and uploaded pictures without ever having to remove the flash card from the camera. Never once have I downloaded a driver, an additional program or gone to a web site for the latest updates. It simply just works.

I’m sold folks. Neo Office is handling all of my Microsoft Office files and I am producing and creating things that I have never been able to do (in about 1/3rd of the time) on a PC. I have also set my sights on a 24″ iMac as the next dream machine for my office. I am no longer a hater. There, I said it. Blame it on Vista. It was the final straw in a life long dependancy on Windows. So long Mr. Gates. Hello Mr. Jobs.

A Complete Update…

ac180logo.jpgA few months ago, some of my blogging buddies and I started a journey and created a blog called “A Complete 180″ or www.ac180.com. It has been a great ride and journey so far. As with everything in life, each of the contributors hit a time of “busyness” at the same time. We came to a fork in the road in our journey. Do we continue? Do we leave it there? Do we shut it down?

Last week we began exchanging emails and praying for some direction. Did God ever answer that prayer! The other contributors to the site and I began to compile a “wish list” of sorts for other potential contributors. Would you believe that each and every one of them said “yes”? I think God’s up to something. I wanted to thank each of the contributors (new and old) for sharing the journey. May God continue to use each of us to reach those that he has already determined.

It’s another reminder that when you feel God calling you to something, keep the faith. He goes before us and behind us. You can find links to each of the contributors in the sidebar under AC180 Partners.

I Got Punk’d

Chalk one up for the department of motor vehicles! A few months ago, I was informed that I was going to receive a company car. Let me start by saying that I count it a blessing in the age of $3 gasoline, to have someone else pick up the tab on my weekly travels. It was also pretty nice to drive off of the lot in a car with a whopping total of 5 miles on it!

I am probably a bit spoiled but the make and model are a brand I have never been real fond of. I will admit that it handles much better than I expected. All of this did not stop me from complaining to anyone that would listen prior to receiving said vehicle. I did my best to keep things in perspective, but complained none the less.

So Saturday I picked up my final plates at the dealership. Folks, I kid you not; the plates read DUH 83– (final 2 numbers omitted). DUH! DUH! Are you kidding me! I mean I always wanted personalized plates, but DUH was not on the short list I had in mind. Being that we watch way too much Sponge Bob at our house, we all immediately made reference to Patrick holding the “orb of confusion”. I guess you can say that I got punk’d by the DMV!
